march madness...

i have two favorite things that happen during the month of march: shamrock shakes. and march madness basketball. there isn't much to say about shamrock shakes other than they are f-ing delicious. so go get yourself one and come back to read about basketball.

as one of the best sporting tournaments is only a few days away, i think about all the basketball games i've watched in my day... as an athletic trainer, i've had the opportunity to travel all over the country. i have been in dozens of college basketball arenas. but still, to this day, my all-time favorite place to watch a basketball game, and one of the hardest places for opposing teams to play, is the dee glen smith spectrum in logan, utah... home of the utah state university aggies.

my favorite aggie tradition is the scotsman:

aggie fans get the spectrum rocking with their "i believe" chant:

another of my favorites is the "winning team losing team" cheer:

and then there is wild bill, one of utah state's super fans:

the british are coming...

the brits are here! if you haven't yet had the pleasure, i won't keep you much longer... these two little spit fires have taken american by storm. and quite frankly, i feel that we, as a country, should just ban together and kidnap them. they are just THAT entertaining and contagious.

ladies and gentlemen, i introduce to you two cousins, 8 year old sophia grace and 5 year old rosie.

S

sophia grace is the brunette bossy one who's unknowing comedic timing is always on point. and then there is rosie, the blonde sidekick, who has an ability to lip-sync like none other.

1

 you've been warned.

even the famous "wild bill" of utah state university, my grad school alma mater, has caught the fever that is sophia grace and rosie...

let's talk accessories...

my loyal blog followers, let's start with a song to get us prepared for tonight's oscars themed blog...

now, i ain't never
been that barbie girl type.
no i can't swig that chic champagne,
i'd rather drink beer all night...

now you're probably wondering what redneck woman has to do with the oscars. eh, not much. and really i forgot what my point was with even writing it... but probably something along the lines of this: those of you who know me are fully aware that i am no fashionista, nor do i claim to be. i'll leave that to my very trendy and fashion aware friend, lexi. you can see her picks for the oscars best dressed here.

i, on the other hand, will keep things simple.

** octavia spencer and robin roberts yelling "war eagle" was brilliant.

** j-lo's nip slip... guuurl, please! that is so 2004 via super bowl halftime show.
get your own schtick.

** angelina jolie's arms looked like pipe cleaners... gross.

Angelina

Disgusting_ellen

and on an unrelated note, i was completely won over by bradley cooper's mustache. and i would happily compromise some of my morals just to touch it. ok, possibly a little more than just touch... cause me likey.

Bradley

bradley, call me!

valentine's (5 days later)...

whenever i get gloomy with the state of the world,
i think about the arrivals gate at heathrow airport.
general opinion's starting to make out
that we live in a world of hatred and greed,
but i don't see that.
it seems to me that love is everywhere.
often, it's not particulary dignified or newsworthy,
but it's always there...
fathers and sons, mothers and daughters,
husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends.
when the planes hit the twin towers,
as far as i know, none of the phone calls from people on board
were messages of hate or revenge.
they were all messages of love.
if you look for it, i've got a sneaking suspicion,
that love, actually is... all around.

this past tuesday i read a lot of quotes and status updates posted on facebook and twitter. i even posted or tweeted quite a few of them myself. collectively, here are some of my favorites... some are sappy. some are serious. and some are purely sarcastic. and of course, i will add some of my wit and humor to enhance their mushy-ness.

"some believe in destiny and some believe in fate. i believe that happiness is something we create"

"we don't pick who we fall in love with. and it never happens like it should"

"love is the only shocking act left on the planet"

"love is friendship on fire"

"i'm looking for love. real love. ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other, love"

"someday someone will walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked with anyone else"

Love_70s_show

"you can't make somebody love you. you can only stalk them and hope for the best"

Stalker

"i like you. wanna make out?"

Love_wg

"let's get this day started, bad choices aren't going to make themselves"

"valentine's pick up line: is that a keg in your pants? because i'd tap that"

Sex_inapprop_bull_riding

"my new year's resolution was less talkin' and more boot knockin'"

"stay close to your phone, i might want to do you"

"count it down me, lovers, and raise your glass to those three little words we all wanna hear... let's. get. naked."

Sex_sex_hand_motions

and my personal favorites...

"happy valentine's day to everyone everyone except bears fans"

Aaron_rodgers_thumbs_up

love may fade with the season, but some friendships are year round. like you and me.
you know you love me.
xoxo,

105 days...

as you read this, i assume most of you are crying tears of joy.. yes, it's true, after 105 days of waiting.... i'm back, babydolls.

i've told myself i'm going to become a regular blogger again.. blogging is therapeutic for me. but really, i wouldn't encourage any of you to get your hopes up just yet.

Just_sayin_snooki

so let's catch up...
october...
my last blog was halloween. HALLOWEEN! i ditched my friends and some big costume bash to stay home, watch scary movies, and eat kit kats. the next morning i woke up feeling the same as i assume most of my party pals.. no bueno.
i was tired: i had convinced myself some crazy in a jason mask was going to bust thru my windows and slit my throat. so i "slept" with a fork on my nightstand as if that was going to save me when the bad guys invaded. i freaking love scary movies. seriously.
and hungover: make that a chocolate hangover. i ate too many kit kats. to be exact, five fun-sized kit kats. you see, i like chocolate. the problem is, it really doesn't like me. 99% of the time i avoid it, and the other 1% usually just makes for a killer stomach ache.

november...
i bought a new pair of north face rain pants. i wore them three times. and those three times coincided with the three losses my football team has seen over our last few seasons. now i'm not saying the losses are soley because of the rain pants... however, as awesome as these pants are i also will not be defending the pants. because let's just be honest here, these rain pants have some pretty bad juju. now i'd like to say i learned my lesson and retired the rain pants immediately following loss #3... but ultimately, i did no such thing. the pants made their re-return in january. i'm not proud. stay tuned...

also in november, i turned 30. yeah, you heard me... THIRTY! i know, i know, i don't look a day over 24. my youthfulness aside, some good friends (kara, tara and lo) made the trip out to cal where we all celebrated thanksgiving and my dirty30 in true CMU fashion. the 5 day extravaganza included: a kara-cooked thanksgiving dinner (tara and i helped... a little), a flamingo, jeggings, black friday crazies, t-pain, cupcakes, a piano bar, some hiccups, XL beers, mustaches, college football rivalry games, jello shots, some tweeting, a little throw up, a lot of shufflin and a fancy dance move we like to call the "wiggle wiggle wiggle". i'd love to explain this all in greater detail, but most stories aren't appropriate to be repeated in a public forum (especially one my mother reads).
so if you weren't here, you missed out.
and if you were here, well then, you know... you know!

here are a few of our PG moments...

december...
my highlight was a two week trip home for the holidays. it was filled with great times with my family, christmas cookies, hometown christmas light tours, lots of laughs and drinks with some of my best friends that i don't get to see often enough, sub shoppe tacos, cheese curds and pasties, a visit to the stormy kromer factory, marenisco madness, two packer games (and wins!) and a camoflauged new years eve.

january...
i headed back to michigan for the wedding of one of my oldest friends. there were good people, old babysitters, lots of dancing, even more drinks and a group of 14th ave-ers reunited for shennanigans.

(download)

i also flew home for the packer/giants playoff game.

P1153306

this game is where the before mentioned rain pants made their re-return...

was wearing the pants for a 4th time a good decision on my part??

aaron rodgers did not approve...

Rodg2

clay matthews did not approve...

Clay

long story short, we all know how the game turned out which makes me 0-4 while wearing the rain pants. i think we're done. the pants need to be retired.

simply speaking, this video below could have very easily been me. thankfully, my dad is technology impaired and didn't have the knowledge and/or means to capture what no one needed to see. but a sympatheic shout out to the girl in the video because guuuuurl, i feel you. i. feel. you.

that about brings us to the present...

i'm working on a valentine's tribute. i promise a little bit of sap and a whole bunch of sarcasm. get your tissues and eyes rolls ready.

until next time, you know you love me
xoxo,
 -Ali

it's belt-tastic...

note: i don’t expect an answer as i ask merely for effect but…

who doesn’t love tv??

Tv_shows
i have never been all about watching commercials. back in college we didn’t even have tv. i watched the same movies for months at a time. my addictions included home alone, miracle, love actually and what about bob. we even had a set of bunny ears that allowed us to steal one fuzzy channel that played re-runs of beverly hills, 90210  and girlfriends.  what more would one want? it was my normal. and it was awesome.

after college i was living in alabama with my college friend steve and our auburn co-worker jess.  one day jess brings home this fancy cable box-ish apparatus, calls it a “tivo” and claims she is going to hook us up. i was skeptical. i was perfectly content watching the weather channel  and episodes of will & grace on dvd. but once i saw what this “tivo”  could do… well, let’s just say that i haven’t been the same since. it is quite possibly THE best invention in the last 10 years. it’s amazing i ever survived without it.

these days, i fast-forward commercials like it’s my part-time job. BOOM!

in case you are on a commercial boycott like myself, let me show you a few commercials that people have pointed out to me… YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED! (especially if you are a packer fan)

and because everyone loves some outtakes…

BONUS: a picture of my good friend jodi in her halloween costume.

Jodi
you can thank me later.

n-i-p-p...

nipple.

Wtf_karen_walker

yes, i said nipple.

a fellow athletic trainer and, more importantly, a friend brought an article to my attention. those of you who are squeamish and/or embarrassed might want to stop reading... but let's face it, you probably stopped reading at first nipp. prudes.

as an athletic trainer there isn't much that shocks me... i've seen more than my fair share of crazy things from an even stranger hodge podge of people. i'd love to share many stories with you, believe me, but i'm gonna have to HIPPA-law you. i know the anticipation of this oddity is killing you... i'm still uncertain if i am truly un-phased or just totally creeped out.  just judge for yourselves....

History made as nipple
is found
on foot

Nipple_foot
A YOUNG woman has made medical history after being discovered with a third nipple
on her FOOT.

Startled researchers believe the 22-year-old's case is the first of its kind.

Between one to five per cent of the population are believed to suffer from the condition,
which is clinically referred to as supernumerary breast tissue.

If present, extra nipples tend to be found above the waist.

Pop star Lily Allen famously has an extra nipple on her left breast.
Bond baddie Scaramanga also suffered from a similar condition.

Nipp2
Rare ... third nipples are usually found above the waist

But medical staff believe the nipple's appearance so far down the body, in this case,
is a total one off.

It features in a report in scientific journal Dermatology Online.

Its authors wrote: "A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar
region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair.

Nipp3
Showing off ... Lily Allen shows off third nipple

"Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands,
and sebaceous glands.

"Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic
findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue,
also known as pseudomamma.

"To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot."

They went on to report it had been there since birth. There were no complaints of
pain, and it remained looking and feeling the same. No one in her family had a
similar condition. And it now measures four centimetres in diameter.

The report added: "Supernumerary breast tissue, known as SBT, is rarely found
beyond the mammary line. But they have been seen before on the back, shoulder,
face, and even thigh."

and now... a little nipple humor from my all-time favorite comic strip, toothpastefordinner

Nippleairre

that's it... nipp out.

updating the "murtaugh list"...

it's simple: if you are one of my true blog followers, you'd be making regular re-checks back to my original blog entry to keep current on my "murtaugh list" progress...

those of you who don't spend your free time stalking my blog....

Waiting_for_apology_himym

in the last few months, here are a few more things i've crossed off my list...

*find my doppelganger (5-7-11... netflix commercial ali. see her for yourself here...)

*see at least 2 broadway shows/musicals each year (2011... wicked, 9-to-5. both were fab!)

*walk a red carpet (7-13-11... ESPY awards. walked the carpet on the way into the nokia theater)

*get my picture taken by the paparizzi (7-13-11... i'm pretty sure it's safe to assume when i met justin bieber on the red carpet before the ESPYs, that the pap got my photo.. i'm big time.)

*attend (and survive) mardi gras (june 2011...i highlighted this, but haven't officially crossed it off... you see, i didn't attend a mardi gras, BUT i did spend 5 days in new orleans for my annual NATA conference with a bunch of my favorite ATCs. we partied like rockstars. it was out of control. it was legendary. and it kicked my butt. i'll probably need a few more of these "practice rounds" before i attempt mardi gras. baby steps, people... BABY. STEPS.)

from here on out i suggest you keep my blog high on your priority list...

seriously.

put your hands in and let's consider it a gentlemen's agreement...
